The primary urge of children to learn and discover everything around their surroundings is a common trait. Right from feeling, asking, touching, smelling, they use all their senses to gain more knowledge of whatever comes to their notice.

This childhood trait becomes a vital trait and a distinct learning model when the kids grow up. Most parents and teachers will be able to identify most of their learning patterns, which is unique for each child.

How to identify your child’s primary learning style?

Research studies show that the learning patterns of children generally classified under three prominent types: Kinaesthetic, Visual and Auditory. At the initial stages, all these types of learning pattern would be equally seen on kids.

However, they may tend to incline into one learning patterns when they grow up. Thus understanding the primary learning pattern will be beneficial for parents and teachers to help kids to study well.

The Kinaesthetic Style

Kinesthetic learners grasp more knowledge and understanding of things through physical methods. This category of kids is usually curious learners by default. Their major learning practice is to learn through touching, feeling, etc. For instance, kids using fingers to count.

These kids have great hand-eye coordination. Kinaesthetic learners usually excel well in activities like sports, dance, etc. As babies, these learners usually display activeness and early to walk soon. They can be more active and restless who may love to do activities like building blocks, puzzles and so on.

The Visual Style

Visual learning gives more effectiveness in understanding a concept. This learning pattern has been followed by philosophers, scholars, etc. They are great observers and try to learn everything that happens around the world.

Children with visual learning pattern are interested in reading books, listening to audios and visual mediums to understand and grasp things. These kids are great analysers while looking at a picture or listen to any audio or look for any symmetrical patterns. Visual learners are more inclined to learn the art and craft have higher imagination capabilities.

They also feel good and learn fast watching visuals on screen as it helps them to gather relevant information and learn and retain information. Such kids have crisp memories and thereby are fast learners

The Auditory Style

Auditory learners grasp information faster by using auditory tools to learn and gather information. The primary trait of these learners is good listening skills. Such kids will be able to learn faster through listening to rhymes and recorded stories, videos and so on.

They usually have an interest in music and in creating songs on their own. These learners can easily understand things when they are given a written direction instead of oral instructions.

Auditory learners may find it tough to remember tough dialogues, however, they have a sharp ear.

They have more interest in learning new languages and to know about new things will be exciting to such learners. Another habit of such kids is that they usually convert lessons to small rhymes which help them to learn better. It is also their habit to read lessons louder and learn.

Study ideas for each learner types

  • Kinaesthetic Learning

Kinaesthetic learners usually prefer practical experience rather than theoretical knowledge. They prefer more in experimenting with their learning rather than reading aloud or listening to a topic. Kinaesthetic learners are to be encouraged to draw diagrams and to use different sizes and textures of papers to write notes to improve their memory.

  • Visual Learning:

Visual learners are more organized than other people and their learning pattern is mostly like to follow colours, maps, charts, diagrams which will also help them to retain the information easily rather than written words. Thus parents can easily teach them by showing pictures, movies, cartoons, and visual images.

  • Auditory learning:

Auditory learners prefer converting normal information in the form of any audio recordings. Hence, parents or teachers should encourage such learners to read out the subjects loud or someone else can teach them by reading the lessons loud so that they register in their mind in a better way.

Auditory learners prefer to give answers orally and they should be encouraged for the same while revising the chapters. Parents can create interest in such kids for learning by simply talking about it. Fun rhymes, songs, conversational technologies would be of great help in making them learn and memorize faster.

Thus, the parents and teachers need to know the exact learning pattern of each child. The teaching method has to be based on the learning style of each child. Identifying their learning patterns will bring more academic excellence to your child as they can grasp and memorize information easily.
